About us

Founded in 2024, we aim to provide the best in class cue sports in the UK

Our story

There has been a snooker hall in the centre of Redhill for several decades now and you may have known it as Colours, Rileys, Q’s or Brooklyns. Sadly, last year it closed its doors.

“When one door closes another door opens”, with that in mind Robin Bailey and Jon Skinner both local businessmen, club regulars and avid pool players met up to discuss options.

They searched high and low to find who had the keys to this door. After several months they met with the leaseholders, explained the vision of revitalizing the venue, focusing on pool while maintaining some snooker and introducing a darts room. The leaseholders could see Robin and Jon were passionate about the venue and cue sports and coupled with good business backgrounds took the opportunity to put them at the top of the prospective buyers list.

For the venue to have the best chance of succeeding it needs to have an experienced manager. This is where Nigel Smith enters the fold along with business partner Mason Hollow.

Nigel has owned and run several pubs including a pool hall in London for the past 14 years. Both he and Mason have played at County level and more recently Nigel has played in the Ultimate pool pairs screened on TV.

The team was complete and the leaseholders (lovely guys it must be said) agreed to let them in.

The name was picked, the opening date was set, and then it was just a little matter of sorting the venue out. The pool world has so far supplied the plumber, plasterer, two carpenters, carpet fitters, several painters and a teaboy.

Our vision & mission

At Spots & Stripes, we envision a world where cue sports aren’t just games, they’re a way of life. We’re all about creating a vibrant community where the crack of a perfect break, the precision of a winning shot, and the thrill of a bullseye are celebrated by all.

Whether you’re a junior just starting out or a seasoned pro perfecting your craft, we see a future where everyone has a place at the table (and the dartboard), right here in Redhill.

Our mission is simple: to be the beating heart of cue sports in Surrey. We’re passionate about nurturing talent from the ground up, offering a friendly and competitive space where players of all levels can sharpen their skills and share their love of the game. From junior hopefuls to senior pros, we’re here to support the journey, one break, one pot, and one dart at a time.

Mason Hollow

Academy Director

Pool has been Mason’s main passion since picked up a cue at the age of 17. He quickly realised he had a certain level of natural talent and played almost every day for the next 2 years, which led to his selection to represent Basingstoke in the Super League.

He started playing county for Hampshire in the late 90s before switching to Greater London until 2005, which was followed by a return to Hampshire between 2011 & 2017.

“Having played in numerous pool leagues in Basingstoke, Newbury, Reading & Alton, I’ve experienced the very best and worst aspects of playing facilities. As an avid player,  I can relate to the things that players find frustrating. So when asked to get involved, I jumped at the opportunity to help provide the best in class cue Sports facilities, knowing that other players would love it. As a team, we are committed to bringing you, the players, a Cue Sports venue to be proud of.”
